1 LOGIT SOUND LEVEL SENSOR For measuring comparative levels of sound using a similar frequency range to the human ear 400Hz - 4KHz. Experiments include measuring sound level through different materials (absorption), reflected sound, noise pollution and the amplitude of sound with distance. Range: 50-100 dBA. For use with any LogIT Datalogger - see page 131 onwards. Cat No. Description Price Per DAT-400-375 Sound Level Sensor 58.95 ea. 2 LOGIT SOUND WAVE SENSOR For displaying sound waves via the Observer Datalogger Screen or on a computer screen using LogIT Black Box or Voyager. Experiments include recording amplitude and frequency of sound, tuning fork frequencies and measuring the speed of sound (using 2). This sensor can also be used to show the difference between loud and quiet sounds and between whistled frequencies. For use with any LogIT Datalogger - see page 131 onwards. Cat No. Description Price Per DAT-400-400 Sound Wave Sensor 54.53 ea. 3 LASCELLS SPEED OF SOUND This is an easy to use piece of apparatus for determining the speed of sound in air. The unit contains two sensitive microphones connected to control circuity that will start and stop a millisecond timer. Alternatively the outputs may be monitored on a storage or PC oscilloscope. In use a sharp sound is produced in line with the two microphones, the time recorded is then the time taken for the sound to travel between the two microphones. Supplied with a 9V PP3 battery, a 6 metre connecting cable and full instructions. Cat No. Description Price Per SWA-715-100 Speed of Sound 81.57 ea. 4 SONOMETER - MINI Single wire compact version with a 500mm scale. Has two bridges and a pulley is fitted at one end to hang masses on the wire. Cat No. Description Price Per SWA-500-100 Sonometer - Mini 47.65 ea. 5 LASCELLS MINI SONOMETER A mini-sonometer suitable for student use, which consists of an acrylic and hardwood base 650 × 100mm overall. It has an integral pulley, wire clamp and half metre scale. A steel guitar string is supplied, along with two movable bridges. The wire can be loaded with slotted masses up to 1kg, to observe the change in pitch etc. Cat No. Description Price Per SWA-505-200 Mini Sonometer 56.78 ea. 6 LASCELLS ULTRASONIC SYSTEM This apparatus consists of a transmitter and receiver operating in the 40 kHz region. The transmitted wave is modulated at a user controlled variable frequency of about 2kHz - this is detected by the receiver which amplifies the signal and drives a miniature integral loudspeaker. Both transmitter and receiver are contained in robust plastic enclosures, which house all the electronics and 9V batteries. The receiver has front panel 4mm sockets so that the output can be monitored on an oscilloscope for more quantitative measurements. The system is ideal for demonstrating sound waves above the hearing threshold and reflection properties associated with sonar etc. A special feature is the second transducer on the transmitter, which can be switched in when required to produce two coherent sources. By moving the receiver along a line parallel to the two sources interference patterns can be dramatically demonstrated, simplifying the Young’s slits experiment or enabling it to be demonstrated using waves other than light. Complete with batteries, full instructions and suggestions for use. Cat No. Description Price Per SWA-745-100 Ultrasonic System 189.81 ea.
