1 THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY BARS Comprises four metal bars held firmly together in parallel with a plastic rigid carrier. The metals are copper, aluminium, brass and steel. Each bar has a Liquid Crystal temperature sensitive strip attached and its conductivity value marked on the back of the carrier. The liquid crystal strips have 8 boxes and change to a green colour at about 40°C. The tops of the bars are designed to be touched with a finger tip to reinforce the colour observations. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-550-100 Thermal Conductivity Bars 31.50 ea. 2 WOOD METAL CYLINDER Comprising a cylinder, one half of which is polished wood and the other half metal. If paper is wrapped tightly around the cylinder and the rod is held above the flame, the portion in contact with the wood will be quickly scorched while the portion in contact with the metal will remain uncharred, showing the differences in their respective thermal conductivities. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-600-100 Wood Metal Cylinder - Standard 15.98 ea. HTC-600-150 Wood Metal Cylinder - Basic 13.29 ea. 3 INFRARED PROBE - NEW! This IR probe utilises a phototransistor with maximum response in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum at around 940 nm. The phototransistor is mounted on the end of a fibreglass wand and fitted to 250mm flying leads with 4mm plugs. When connected to a suitable voltmeter or multimeter the probe will produce a qualitative reading proportional to the amount of infrared radiation incident on its sensitive face. Supplied with instructions. Requires connection to a multimeter or low voltage digital voltmeter, sensitive to at least 0.01V. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-320-100 Infrared Probe 19.98 ea. 4 CONVECTION IN AIR APPARATUS Metal box with sliding plate glass front and two glass chimneys. Cat No. Description Price Per HPG-400-100 Convection in Air Apparatus 26.05 ea. HPG-400-150 Spare Chimneys 8.39 pr BRN-400-100 Smoke Matches 2.49 25 5 CONVECTION IN WATER APPARATUS This apparatus comprises a rectangle formed from 20mm diameter borosilicate glass tubing, for demonstrating thermal convection in water. The tube should be filled with water and the apparatus carefully mounted using a retort stand with clamp on either side. A few crystals of potassium permanganate (or some drops of concentrated coloured dye/ink) can then be introduced into the open top of the tube, whilst one of the bottom corners is heated gently with a low Bunsen flame. As heat rises up this side of the tube, colour from the crystals or dye will begin to move along the top and then down the opposite side, due to the convection currents generated. Finally, the coloured water will move along the bottom of the apparatus and back up the side above the heated corner. Dimensions: 380 x 300 mm approx. Cat No. Description Price Per HPL-100-100 Convection in Water Apparatus 21.50 ea.
