1 LESLIE’S CUBE Compare the relative radiant heat output from different surfaces. The four sides comprise blackened, roughened, varnished and polished finishes. Size: 130 x 130 x 130mm. 75mm Dia. top opening (with lid) Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-350-100 Leslie’s Cube 36.66 ea. 2 LASCELLS LESLIE’S’ RADIATION PLATE This apparatus allows the demonstration of the dramatic differences in radiated heat from various surfaces. Being electrically heated it is more convenient than some of the more conventional methods involving water or Bunsen flames. The apparatus contains a single aluminium plate divided into 3 different regions: a matt black section, a polished aluminium section and a roughened aluminium section. The plate is heated using a resistive element, ensuring that each section is at the same temperature. Readings of each surface may then be taken using an infra-red thermometer (not supplied). Connection to power supply is via 4mm sockets. The plate requires an adjustable 12V D.C. power supply capable of providing 1A continuously. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-355-100 Leslie’s’ Radiation Plate 50.31 ea. 3 HEAT ABSORPTION RADIATION APPARATUS This apparatus provides an easy way to demonstrate comparative heat absorption from a radiated heat source. The apparatus uses a 12 V 24W bulb as a heat source, with 2 parabolic metal dishes for heat absorption - one finished in black and one in shiny metal. The dishes include integral holders for thermometers, to allow comparison of temperature readings (thermometers not included). Comes complete with instructions. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-450-100 Heat Absorption & Radiation Apparatus 25.56 ea. 4 RADIATION CANS Place each of these three cans, identical apart from their surface colour, 50-70cm away from a bright bulb. A hole in the top of each can allows a thermometer or datalogging temperature sensor to be inserted. We reccommend setting your datalogger to take readings every second and, if possible, connecting a fourth probe to monitor room temperature. Students can easily determine the effect of surface color on energy transfer as they watch the temperatures rise, and subsequently fall, at varying rates. This experiment will also work if the cans are filled with water, although empty cans often work better. Set of three cans. Size: 153mm Height, 53mm Dia. Cat No. Description Price Per HTC-100-360 Radiation Cans 36.42 set 5 RADIANT HEAT SOURCE This Radiant Heat Source has been specifically designed for bench top use in heat and radiation experiments in Physics and offers a safer alternative to an open element heat source. The fully enclosed (apart from the output grille) steel case is earthed via the IEC mains lead and includes an illuminated on/off switch and carrying handle. The unit has a broad base with rubber feet for extra stability. Comes with a 2 year warranty.
